Kirsten Jones wants your help in recording her new album, The Mad Mile.

The Virginia-born, Toronto-based alt.country artist has launched an online campaign to raise $75,000 to record the album, which she hopes to have out next year. You can contribute from $15 to $10,000 to help her make The Mad Mile, which is being produced by The Jayhawks' Gary Louris (Dixie Chicks, The Sadies). It will be engineered by Denis Tougas (Kathleen Edwards, Sarah Harmer).

Jones wrote on the Mad Mile website that while she could have made this album in her basement, interest from Louris, along with the desire to have more people than just her family and immediate circle of friends hear it, has contributed to a higher cost.

"I wouldn't be able to record this CD if it wasn't for the generous support of FACTOR, but even with their encouragement and funding, I need to subsidize my additional expenses," Jones says. "This initiative will help me cover the rest — everything from lawyers to my producer's costs, and if enough people get behind this project, a video and tour support."

If you help Jones out, she'll give you something in return. Fifteen dollars will get you a thank you email and a download of three demo recordings of songs from The Mad Mile. Larger donations will get you a private house performance or VIP treatment at her Toronto CD release party. Jones has raised just over $1,000 so far. You can get more information about the various thank-you gifts you'll receive when you make a donation on the Mad Mile site.

"Music fans can participate in getting albums made like never before," Jones says. "Essentially, with initiatives such as this, the public is the record label — they are deciding what they want to hear."

Jones' Drive-In Movie debut was released in 2005 and hit #3 on Galaxie's Canadian folk/roots chart. She has played with Corb Lund, Jim Cuddy, Oh Susanna and Jessie Farrell. Her song "I Will Love You Now" was given an honourable mention by the Nashville Songwriters Association and she was a semi-finalist in the 2007 International Songwriting Competition.
