Breathe Easy With Dandy Warhols

The Dandy Warhols

The Dandy Warhols often let local and touring bands and their friends use their Portland, Ore. Odditorium studio as a recording and practice space. Last year, they invited some of their friends to the studio to take part in a charitable collaborative project that will be released later this year.

Breathe Easy is a series of 12 tracks featuring artists like The Raveonettes, The Black Angels, J Mascis, Saul Williams, Swervedriver, The Kooks, David J, Spoon's Britt Daniel and others. More acts will record Breathe Easy tracks as the project continues.

"Genre becomes loosely articulated," a message on the Breathe Easy MySpace page reads. "What unites the pieces is the emotion, the spontaneity that comes from collaboration and inspiration. It’s music that conveys both the individual contribution and the integrity of the whole."

The first of the songs will go on sale through selected digital music outlets on Oct. 21. All the proceeds will go to the Three Rivers Land Conservancy, a non-profit organization that works to conserve lands around three of Oregon's rivers and protect it from urbanization.

"The Dandy Warhols and the Three Rivers Land Conservancy believe that conserving land and protecting against errant urbanization creates stronger healthier communities now and for future generations," the MySpace message continues. "Through consumer purchases, and corporate contributions the initial goal is to save 10,000 acres of Oregon's natural habitat."
