Chad VanGaalen Remains At #1

Plays To Please & Spectrum, 14th Century EPs
Chad VanGaalen's Soft Airplane sits at #1 on the top 50 campus radio chart for a third week. Human Highway's Moody Motorcycle moves up a position to #2, followed by The Stills' Oceans Will Rise improving by seven places to #3. Novillero's A Little Tradition jumps 19 spots to #9.

The highest debut this week is Final Fantasy's Plays To Please EP, which enters the chart at #20. Owen Pallett's closest rival for the Chart Sizzler Award is himself, as Final Fantasy's Spectrum, 14th Century EP debuts at #26. This is the first time since the release of Spookey Ruben's Bed and Breakfast albums in September 2004 that one artist held down the top two debuts in the same week. Other new entries of note include Blitzen Trapper's Furr at #28, Ra Ra Riot's The Rhumb Line at #39 and The City Streets' Concentrated Living (which sits at #1 on the CJSR chart in the band's hometown of Edmonton) at #45.

Outside of the new arrivals, there wasn't much upward movement on the chart for incumbents. Brazilian Girls' New York City jumped 25 spots to #25 and Sloan's Parallel Play rose 17 spots to #27. Calexico's Carried To Dust fell 30 places to #48. Other victims include Tindersticks' The Hungry Saw, which dropped 25 spots to #46, and Fleet Foxes' self-titled album, which dipped 24 slots to #43 in its 14th week on the chart, the current longest of any album in the top 50.

The specialty charts saw some extraordinary upheaval, as only one of the five has the same #1 as last week: Hercules And Love Affair's eponymous album on the Electronic chart. Chiwoniso's Rebel Woman recaptures the #1 spot on the World/Folk chart from the Calypsoul 70 compilation. Neuraxis' The Thin Line Between and Fuck The Facts' Disgorge Mexico have been swapping the top two positions on the Metal/Punk chart for the past four weeks, and the former returns there again. Mark DeJong's The Unknown moves up seven places to grab #1 on the Jazz/Blues chart, and GZA's Pro Tools re-enters the Hip-Hop chart at #1. Pro Tools dropped out of the top 10 last week after debuting the week before at #5.
