VanGaalen's Soft Airplane Remains #1

Last week, it was noted that Chad VanGaalen's Skelliconnection topped the top 50 chart for one week in September 2006. His Soft Airplane follow-up has now bested that achievement by remaining at #1 for a second week.
Brendan Canning's Something For All Of Us... returns to #2, a position it held for three weeks in late August and early September. Human Highway's Moody Motorcycle remains at #3 for a second week, while Elliott Brood's Mountain Meadows experiences a resurgence and moves up five spots to #4. Women's self-titled release falls a notch to #5, while Stereolab's Chemical Chords drops four places to #6. FemBots' Calling Out rises four spots to enter the top 10 for the first time at #7. Okkervil River's The Stand Ins improves by seven positions to #8 and pushes a former #1 album, Wolf Parade's At Mount Zoomer, down a place to #9 in its 12th week on the chart. The Stills' Oceans Will Rise drops three positions to #10.
The Chart Sizzler Award for highest debut goes to Winter Gloves' About A Girl, which enters at #17. The next nearest new entry is Novillero's A Little Tradition at #28. Other notable debuts include Laura Barrett's Victory Garden at #31, the Calypsoul 70 compilation at #40 and Young Rival's eponymous EP at #41.
Two albums have been in the top 50 longer than Wolf Parade's dozen weeks. Islands' Arm's Way re-enters at #42 to give it 17 weeks in the top 50, while Fleet Foxes' self-titled album remains at #19 in its 13th week.
There's a clean slate of new #1s on the five specialty charts. Fuck The Facts' Disgorge Mexico regains its #1 status on the Metal/Punk top 10 after losing it to Neuraxis' The Thin Line Between last week. A similar battle is going on at the top of the Electronic chart, where Hercules & Love Affair's eponymous album recaptures #1. The confusingly named Carlos Nino & Lil Sci Present What's The Science? Elevation album moves up two places to take over #1 on the Hip-Hop chart. Jane Bunnett's Embracing Voices improves by three positions to grab the top spot on Jazz/Blues, while the Calypsoul 70 compilation steps up a notch to #1 on World/Folk.
