Mansion Invent "Stadium House"

There's something bubbling in the dance music world right now quite unlike the rip-roaring chainsaw bass lines and kick and snare assaults that are all the rage (thank god). This "something" is the return of house music, resurrected with melody lines, soul and a bedroom production aesthetic like it's never shown the world before.
Dance music newborns Mansion, composed of Toronto's Violca (formerly DJ Van Helder) and electro bad boy Barletta, are leaders in this new wave even though they only started in the summer.
"I met Barletta at Gay Bash, which is a party that my former band Fritz Helder And The Phantoms throws," Violca says. "DJ Barbi, who is friends with Barletta, brought him.
"We just started hanging out, totally hit it off and exchanged numbers. I gave him a call and we started working on songs right away. The creative flow between us is really insane. We just make stuff effortlessly together. We have really good music chemistry, so I think it was meant to be. The gods brought us together, I guess."
But which gods could this accomplished female DJ be referencing? The gods of house music? The gods of electro house? The gods of disco house? There are so many to choose from.
"We're really focused on having our songs be diverse," Violca says. "None of our songs sound the same.
"We're not just making electro house, old school house-influenced tracks or rave house. All of our songs are different and we're always experimenting. We sent out this song we made called 'Stab' to all the blogs, and we were referred to as 'stadium house.' I had never heard that before, so I think we've created a new genre."
Now they need to actually start working on trying to get to those stadiums.
"Our main goal is to crank out tracks and tour internationally," Violca says. "Getting out of Toronto and spreading the Mansion love."
That task shouldn't be tough. Listen to the duo's tracks on their MySpace page and you'll discover that the Mansion sound is one that's easy to fall for and get down to.
In sharp contrast to the Lady Gagas of the world, Mansion aren't yet trading on fashion (the two DJs currently sport black leather jackets, sharp heads of hair and a can't-touch-this attitude on rarely captured camera moments). They want to keep the focus on what they can produce behind closed doors.
"We're keeping the image low-key right now and really want it to be about the music," says Violca. "We like to crank out big club bangers.
"We know what we like when we're in the clubs. We know what we like listening to and we love DJing. So whatever makes me head-bang in the DJ booth, I wanna produce. I never dance, but I know if something gets my booty shaking on the dance floor, then it will make everyone else who loves to dance go crazy, right? I feel like Barletta and I share the same ears that way. Sonically, I think our brains are connected."
Mansion will play their first gig with DJs Vaneska, St. Mandrew, Nasty Nav, Merk Meny and Syntonics on Sept. 26 at Toronto's The Bright Pearl. They'll also play with Kelevra at London, Ont.'s Up On Carling on Oct. 23 and a Halloween gig at Toronto's Circa with Thunderheist and VND/LSM.
