Smashing Pumpkins' 2007 reunion will be brought to DVD on Nov. 11 with the release of a two-disc documentary and concert special called If All Goes Wrong.
The DVD was directed and produced by Jack Gulick (Nickelback, Steve Miller Band) and Daniel E. Catullo III (Slayer, Rush) and mixed by Kerry Brown. It contains a documentary that follows the Pumpkins' return last year for 19 shows at The Orange Peel in Asheville, N.C. and at San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium. It includes interviews with the band, fans, journalists and other musicians. There's also a featurette called Voices Of The Ghost Children about Smashing Pumpkins fans, and an interview with The Who's Pete Townshend.
If All Goes Wrong also includes a live concert portion titled The Fillmore Residency. The 115-minute feature includes footage from 11 sold-out shows the band played at the Fillmore in July and August 2007. Seven unreleased songs, which the Pumpkins composed for and performed exclusively at the Fillmore, are included in the 14-song set. One of those songs, "Gossamer," is more than 30 minutes long. Yes, 30 minutes.
"We went into the residencies hopeful to play some new music, with the idea I would write during the day and we could maybe even play new songs that same night," says Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan. "What I didn't anticipate is how much the process would inspire me, positively and negatively, to report what I was seeing and feeling from the shows. The documentary shows that process in an interesting way that reveals the link between the band and our audience."
Smashing Pumpkins broke up in 2000, but reunited in 2006. Zeitgeist, the band's first album since 2000's Machina II/The Friends & Enemies Of Modern Music, came out a year later. Their lineup includes Corgan and fellow original member Jimmy Chamberlin (drums), along with new members Jeff Schroeder (guitar), Ginger Reyes (bass/vocals) and Lisa Harriton (keyboards/vocals).
