Deerhoof Get All Offensive

Deerhoof

Hot off the success of last year's Friend Opportunity, Deerhoof's Offend Maggie will hit stores on Oct. 7 through Kill Rock Stars Records.

The disc is the band's ninth album, but first as a quartet after the addition of guitarist Ed Rodriguez. In addition to a lineup change, the band's songwriting approach was also a bit different this time.

"We basically [used to show] each other song ideas and then that day turn the record button on, having never rehearsed," drummer Greg Saunier told Billboard.com. "This time we wrote songs and rehearsed them, and actually played them at a few concerts where we could play them straight through as a band."

If you buy Offend Maggie online, a percentage of the purchase price will go towards a charitable donation. But the band can't decide which one. They've narrowed it down to five choices — Why Tuesday?, Fairness And Accuracy In Reporting, Peace Action West, Z Magazine and Doctors Without Borders — and want you to decide where your money will go. You can vote until Oct. 1 by emailing deerhoofcharityvote@gmail.com. The winning organization will be announced on Oct. 7.

Deerhoof are also giving fans the opportunity to make their own versions of "Fresh Born" from Offend Maggie. You can download the sheet music for the song for free here, and upload your version to the same location. You can hear the album's title track on the group's MySpace page.

The first 500 fans who pre-order Offend Maggie can also get their hands on physical copies of sheet music for the entire album, which were handwritten by the band, then printed and saddle-stitched.
