Clash At Shea Coming To CD

The Clash
The Beatles aren't the only band who played a famous gig at New York City's Shea Stadium. The Clash opened for The Who on their "farewell" (ha ha) tour and played at Shea on Oct. 12 and 13, 1982.

The second performance is a bootleg favourite and will be officially available on CD for the first time on Oct. 7 when Live At Shea Stadium hits stores via Legacy Recordings. The Clash had just released Combat Rock at the time of the show. Late frontman Joe Strummer apparently found tapes of the concert, which were recorded by producer Glyn Johns (Eric Clapton, The Who), while preparing to move into a new house.

If that's not enough for you, you can buy a new Clash biography. The Clash By The Clash, full of band interviews, will be published by Grand Central Books on Nov. 4.
