The Waking Eyes Are Holding On

The Waking Eyes

You can buy a downloadable version of The Waking Eyes' third album on iTunes now. You can also buy it on vinyl at the band's shows. But you'll have to wait until Nov. 4 to buy the CD version of Holding On To Whatever It Is in stores via Warner Music Canada.

The album was recorded and produced by John Paul Peters in Winnipeg. The band spent three years writing the album and demoed more than 100 songs. You can preview three track from Holding On To Whatever It Is on The Waking Eyes' MySpace page.

"While writing and recording the new album, it became obvious we needed to embrace our wide musical palette and stop ignoring who we were," the band wrote in a press release.

"People need to hear something varied and interesting that keeps their attention. Consequently, on this new record you'll encounter a lush amalgamation of rock, dance and Latin rhythms, orchestrated guitar solos, dark glitchy electronica and epic piano ballads — amongst other craziness."

The Waking Eyes formed after Winnipeg's The Pets broke up. That band's Matt Peters and Steve Senkiw began playing with bassist Russ Duerksen and former Novillero member Rusty Matyas in 2002. Duerksen left The Waking Eyes and was replaced by Joey Penner the same year, which was also when the band's Combing The Clouds debut came out. It was followed by Video Sound two years later. Matyas also plays in Terrier and The Mother Brothers Band, while Peters is in Royal Canoe with the rest of The Waking Eyes and a few outside members.
