The Flaming Lips' Christmas On Mars film has been in the works for years, and finally premiered at the Sasquatch! Music Festival in May. The Lips have been showing it at other festivals since then, but for those of you who can't haul your asses out to festivals to see it, Warner Bros. will finally release it in October so you can watch it from the comfort of your living room.
The film was written by Lips frontman Wayne Coyne and co-directed by Coyne and George Salisbury. It stars Coyne and Lips drummer Steve Drozd, who are joined by Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock, Blues Clues creator Steve Burns and actors Adam Goldberg, Elijah Wood and Fred Armisen. The plot revolves around Major Syrtis' (Drozd) first Christmas on Mars, which humans have just colonized. Unfortunately, those living on Mars are stuck there and Syrtis must organize a Christmas pageant to mark the birth of the first baby born to the Mars colonists.

In other Flaming Lips news, "Do You Realize?" has been nominated to become the "Official Oklahoma Rock Song." The Oklahoma state legislature picked a panel of musicians to choose 10 candidates for the title, and you can vote for which track you think should win here.
The Flaming Lips have also contributed a new track called "Cosmic Trigger 2" to the Okie Noodling II soundtrack. Okie Noodling II is the follow-up to 2001's Okie Noodling, a documentary which tackles (pun completely intended) "noodling," the art of fishing with one hand. Okie Noodling II is out now on DVD.
