The Manifesto Festival Of Music & Art will return for a second year with performances from K-OS, K'Naan and the Rascalz, as well as many other events throughout Toronto.
The five-day festival will take place from Sept. 17 to 21 and will culminate in a free day-long show at Nathan Phillips Square featuring the Rascalz, K-OS, K'Naan, Kamau and host Sol Guy. The show will also include an emerging artist showcase, a 70-foot mural wall, a breakdancing floor and an artist market.
"We are proud to have maintained lasting partnerships and announce new ones moving into our second annual festival with community goups, organizations and individuals that are committed to spreading our message of solidarity," said festival executive director Che Kothari.
Other events will include visual arts shows, a film festival at the Royal Ontario Museum, hip-hop karaoke at Revival nightclub, a street dance competition with a $1,500 prize, a project pitch contest with a $2,000 prize, workshops and two outdoor block parties. Circa will host the official after-party, which will feature DJ Premier vs. Pete Rock.
The festival will be preceded by a week of individually organized events from Sept. 11 to 17. More information and a complete schedule can be found on the Manifesto Festival website.
The first Manifesto Festival was held last year over four days and featured more than 100 artists. The festival is organized by Manifesto Community Projects, a non-profit group which aims to unite Toronto's music and arts community.
