Regina indie rockers Sylvie will release Trees And Shade Are Our Only Fences on Oct. 21 through Smallman Records.
J. Robbins (Against Me!, Jawbreaker) produced the disc in Baltimore. Trees And Shade Are Our Only Fences is the band's first album with new keyboardist/singer Erin Passmore. According to singer/guitarist Joel Passmore, that isn't the only change for the band.
"The lyrics on this album tell more stories: they reflect the reasons we have to open our mouths, not just filler. In some ways they have a more sombre tone, but in other cases songs talk about first loves and coming home. There is a bit of trepidation about the future at times, but I think it's balanced with a light-heartedness in the music. I guess it reflects our hopes as well."
Sylvie formed in Regina in 1999 and released their I Wish I Was Driving debut in 2003. Their most recent release is 2005's An Electric Trace. In addition to the Passmores, Sylvie's lineup includes bassist/singer Riva Farrell Racette, guitarist/singer Chris Notenboom and drummer Jeff Romanyk.
