Not long after releasing 2006's Every Second Counts, pop-punkers Plain White T's were back in the studio working on Big Bad World, which comes out Sept. 23 via Hollywood Records.
The album was recorded in Malibu, Calif. and Chicago. It was produced by Johnny K (3 Doors Down, Finger Eleven) and mixed by Andy Wallace (Bruce Springsteen, Nirvana).
"It definitely doesn't sound too much like any of our peers as much as our last album or last few albums have," singer Tom Higgenson recently told Billboard.com. "I think this will stand alone stylistically and is kind of in a way a songwriting celebration from the '50s and '60s."
Lead single "Natural Disaster" and "1234" can be heard on the band's MySpace page.
The ABC Family website is hosting 12 five-minute webisodes of a weekly series called Meet Me In California that shows the band making Big Bad World.
Higgenson will appear on the Sept. 26 episode of Sesame Street singing about the letter "T" to the tune of the band's biggest hit, "Hey There Delilah." There's a track called "1234" on Big Bad World, but Feist beat Higgenson to singing a song with that title on the children's television show.
Higgenson is joined in Plain White T's by guitarists Dave Tirio and Tim Lopez, bassist/vocalist Mike Retondo and drummer De'Mar Hamilton. The band formed in Chicago in 1997 and self-released their 2000 Come On Over debut. They've since released three albums.
Plain White T's are touring with Panic At The Disco, Dashboard Confessional and The Cab this fall. They'll make one Canadian stop at Arrow Hall in Mississauga, Ont. on Oct. 24.
Here are the tracks on Big Bad World:
"Big Bad World"
"Natural Disaster"
"Serious Mistake"
"Rainy Day"
"1234"
"That Girl"
"Sunlight"
"I Really Want You"
"Meet Me In California"
"Someday"
