If you can't get enough of Bradford Cox, you're about to be very happy. Cox's main band,
Deerhunter, will release their third album,
Microcastle, on Oct. 28 through Kranky Records.
Producer Nicholas Vernhes (Animal Collective, Oakley Hall) recorded the disc at Brooklyn, N.Y.'s Rare Book Room Studio, just as he did with Deerhunter's
Fluorescent Grey EP. Black Lip Cole Alexander guests on the album, which also features lead vocals from Deerhunter guitarist/synthesizer player Lockett Pundt on "Agoraphobia" and "Neither Of Us, Uncertainly." Neither former guitarist Colin Mee nor replacement Whitney Petty, who joined the band in May, are on
Microcastle.
You can hear "Nothing Ever Happened" and "Never Stops" on Deerhunter's
MySpace page. The former track is the album's first single and will be issued as a limited-edition seven-inch featuring a demo of "Little Kids" as its B-side.
Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel, the debut from Cox's Atlas Sound project, will be reissued on vinyl on July 28 with a six-song bonus disc not included with the original North American release.
Cox will also appear on the next Jay Reatard seven-inch single covering Reatard's "Oh It's Such A Shame." Reatard will tackle Deerhunter's "Flourescent Grey."
Cox and drummer/keyboardist Moses Archuleta formed Deerhunter in 2001. Mee joined on guitar and Joshua Fauver was added on bass after original bassist Justin Bosworth died in a skateboarding accident. Deerhunter's
Turn It Up Faggot debut album came out in 2005, just before Pundt joined the band. Deerhunter attracted a lot of buzz with the release of
Cryptograms and the
Flourescent Grey EP last year.
Atlas Sound will play Toronto's Mod Club on July 22 and Montreal's La Sala Rossa the next night before Deerhunter open for Nine Inch Nails at Toronto's Air Canada Centre on Aug. 5.
