New York City indie rockers The Walkmen will release You & Me on Aug. 19 through Gigantic Music.
You & Me is the product of long and frequent bus rides that the band made as they split their time between Philadelphia and New York, often commuting five days a week between their two rehearsal spaces. The album was recorded in two parts, first at Sweet Tea studios in Oxford, Miss. with John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth), and then at New York's Gigantic Studios with Chris Zane (Les Savy Fav, Ambulance LTD).
"In The New Year" can be previewed on The Walkmen's MySpace page.
Members of the disbanded Jonathan Fire*Eater and The Recoys formed The Walkmen in 2000. The group are composed of singer/guitarist Hamilton Leithauser, guitarist/pianist Paul Maroon, organist/bassist Walter Martin, bassist/organist Peter Bauer and drummer Matt Barrick. They released their Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone debut in 2002, Bows + Arrows in 2004, and A Hundred Miles Off and Pussy Cats (a track-by-track cover of Harry Nilsson's 1974 album, Pussy Cats) in 2006.
Feel free to take the bus to these Walkmen shows:
