Wolf Parade On Top

In previous years, the top 50 chart has been pretty quiet in July — kind of like that Porgy And Bess song where they sing, "Summertime, and the living is easy." But not this year. Like the recent rain storms that have plagued parts of Canada, the top 50 chart continues to be deluged by new albums.
Wolf Parade's At Mount Zoomer remains at #1 for a second week and is again followed by Women's self-titled debut. Sloan's Parallel Play rises seven spots to #3, which leads to Fleet Foxes' eponymous album falling a place to #4. The Awkward Stage's Slimming Mirrors, Flattering Lights moves up nine spots to #5.
Sigur Ros' Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust (Icelandic for "With A Buzz In Our Ears, We Play Endlessly") enters at #6 to win the Chart Sizzler Award for this week. Islands' Arm's Way improves by one to #7 and is followed by another new entry, King Khan And The Shrines' The Supreme Genius Of King Khan And The Shrines. Vancougar's Canadian Tuxedo drops five notches to #9 and is followed by Elliott Brood's Mountain Meadows' #10 debut.
The dominance of new entries doesn't end at #10. Ratatat's LP3 hits the chart at #12, The Jolts' Haute/Voltage arrives at #18, NQ Arbuckle's X O K debuts at #23 and Matt Mays & El Torpedo's Terminal Romance checks in at #24. Matching the seven debuts in the top 25 are seven new entries in the lower 25, led by Sam Roberts Band's Love At The End Of The World at #32 and culminating at #50 with Ndidi Onukwulu's The Contradictor.
Although there are two new #1s on the five genre-specific charts, both of them formerly held the top spot. Atmosphere's When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold rises a notch to recapture the #1 position on the Hip-Hop chart, while Matmos' Supreme Balloon does the same thing on the Electronic top 10. The other three charts have the same #1s: Opeth's Watershed on Metal/Punk; Orchestra Baobab's Made In Dakar on World/Folk; and Elizabeth Shepherd's Parkdale on Jazz/Blues.
