Canadian Idol: Not Exciting

Lisa Bell

Four more contestants were eliminated from Canadian Idol on Wednesday night. Lisa Bell, Paul Clifford, Jesse Cottam and Jessica Sheppard (who's now been eliminated twice) found no love from Canadian voters after their performances on Monday and Tuesday nights and were sent packing.

This week's results show introduced yet another exciting change for Idol. We got to see more performances. Each judge picked his or her favourite singer from this week to do an encore. Woo hoo! Recaps and show favourites usually come at the end of a season, not one or two days after the initial performance. Come on, give us something more entertaining. It's not like this show isn't dragged out enough already.

I didn't mind seeing Omar Lunan's performance a second time, however. His version of Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine" came off even cooler and more relaxed than the previous night. The stage is becoming his home and it's great to watch.

Other than that: Boring! I think the most entertaining part of the evening was watching Mark Day take the eliminations to heart, even though he was safe.

I'm pretty indifferent on this round of eliminations, but was surprised Bell is a goner. Her performance earlier this week wasn't her most impressive, but that girl probably has the strongest and most powerful voice of any of the contestants. Even if she's not final Idol material, she definitely should have stuck around longer to sweeten the competition.

With only 16 contestants left, hopefully we'll get more thrills when it returns at 8 p.m. EST on July 7.
