After 17 years of summer theatre, Toronto's SummerWorks Theatre Festival is set to debut the SummerWorks Music Series to highlight some of the city's musical acts.

The CBC Radio 3-sponsored SummerWorks Music Series kicks off Aug. 8 and runs through Aug. 16 and will feature performances from Matthew Barber, Sunparlour Players, The Bicycles, Run With The Kittens, Laura Barrett, Gentleman Reg and others.

All the shows will take place at The Theatre Centre on Queen Street West. The two-act, all-ages performances start at 10:30 p.m. every night. Tickets are available at totix.ca, by phone or through the T.O. Tix box office at Yonge-Dundas Square. Tickets are $10 at the door or $12 in advance. If you want to see more than one gig, you can pick up a $60 music pass that will get you in to eight of the nine shows.

The SummerWorks Theatre Festival was launched in 1991 as a fringe festival to spotlight Toronto's theatre community. It's now the largest juried theatre festival in Canada. More information is available on the Summerworks website.
