Doctors To Amy Winehouse: Stop Using Drugs Or You'll Die

Doctors have reportedly told Amy Winehouse what should have been entirely obvious by now: she'll die if she doesn't stop using drugs.

Winehouse is in a London, England hospital after fainting at her London home on Monday. She had been signing autographs on her front porch for a group of Canadian fans, but later collapsed. Her father, Mitch Winehouse, took her to hospital as a precaution. The singer underwent several tests and doctors apparently told her she'll die if she doesn't alter her behaviour.

"She might have escaped this time, but eventually she won't get up again," a source told the U.K.'s The Sun tabloid. "The only thing to stop that from happening is if she quits drugs."

According to The Sun, doctors said Winehouse's fainting spell could be linked to an overdose last August. Then, her husband Blake Fielder-Civil took her to hospital and her stomach was pumped. The Sun also reports that brain tests conducted on Tuesday showed problems connected to the singer's drug use, and that doctors told Winehouse "she would keep having seizures unless she quit [drugs]."

Another source apparently told The Sun that Winehouse needs to take a break from performing to fully recover from whatever health problems she has.

"She should not work for at least six months," the unnamed person said. "It's irresponsible of her team to keep putting her on stage. She needs to get away from temptations."

Mitch Winehouse told Britain's Telegraph newspaper that his daughter is recovering from her collapse. The singer's spokesperson said doctors still don't know what was behind her fainting.

"She'll stay [in hospital] for as long as they can find out what's wrong with her. I don't know what's wrong with her and the doctors don't seem to. There are various possibilities. It's probably something to do with her ongoing treatment. She's staying in there for the time being. They are still not quite sure what happened and the tests were inconclusive."

Things have been rough for Winehouse lately. Back in April, she was cautioned after she assaulted a man at a London pub. Things only got worse from there. Last week, a video of Winehouse singing a racist chant to the tune of the children's song "Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes" hit the internet. She later apologized to reporters on the front steps of her house, telling them, "I'm the least racist person going."

Fielder-Civil also pleaded guilty to charges of grievous bodily harm and attempting to pervert the course of justice after he tried to bribe a witness to withdraw from a trial surrounding his assault on pub owner James King. Fielder-Civil hasn't yet been sentenced, but he remains behind bars. A court heard yesterday that Fielder-Civil offered a man 200,000 pounds (about $400,000 Canadian) to have Pete Doherty "smashed to pieces" because Fielder-Civil was convinced Winehouse was cheating on him with the former Libertines frontman.

Winehouse is slated to play Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday party with Leona Lewis, Queen and Dame Shirley Bassey on June 27. We wonder what the anti-racism activist and former South African president thinks of Winehouse's reworking of "Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes."
