Perez Hilton: In Washroom At MMVAs

Sometimes life is full of little bits of very amusing irony, and if you were backstage at the MuchMusic Video Awards on Sunday night, you might have witnessed one of these moments.

I was hanging around the elevator and snapping photos near the ground floor washrooms and, after a period of relative quiet with little to no celebrity traffic, a group of radio contest winners to my left suddenly started shrieking, "It's Perez! It's Perez!" and pointing around the corner. I walked over and looked around the bend and couldn't see the notorious gossip-monger. I shrugged my shoulders, but they insisted he was there.

"He went into the washroom!" one of them yelled.

She and several of her friends ran over to the men's washroom door and proceeded to push very gently against it, trying to push it open in an effort to catch a glimpse of Hilton. Apparently it made no difference to them that Hilton was trying to do his business.

After a couple minutes, Hilton emerged from the washroom sporting a new hairdo. He had a very irritated look on his face. As the contest winners crowded around him asking for photos, his facial expression didn't change. He finally walked away, only to be followed by someone who kept muttering "I'm so sorry" over and over.

While many people would be relatively put out to discover that folks were trying to peek at them in the washroom, this nonetheless elicited a chuckle from me. How ironic is it that someone who made a name for himself by making fun of celebrities has become one of those celebrities himself?

ChartAttack news editor Steve McLean later reported that, while he was at a urinal draining some of the many glasses of wine and vodka he'd ingested, Hilton came into the washroom (with a security guard) to use the mirror and apply some lipstick.
