Liars Freak Out On New EP

in
Liars

Liars are no strangers to freaking out — they performed one of their songs in an elevator on La Blogotheque's Take-Away Shows using nothing but their palms on its walls, and their experimental sounds have elicited both delight and disdain from critics and fans alike. They'll freak out in a different way when Mute Records releases their Freak Out EP to North American stores on July 8.

Freak Out was released in the U.K. without warning last month. The EP includes the title track, a live version of "Clear Island" recorded at Los Angeles' El Rey Theatre and four videos. The "We Fenced Other Gardens With The Bones Of Our Own" video was directed by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O.

Liars formed when singer/guitarist Angus Andrew met multi-instrumentalist Aaron Hemphill in California and the two began recording together. They relocated to New York when Andrew graduated from the California Institute Of The Arts and added bassist Pat Noecker and drummer Ron Albertson to the lineup. Liars' They Threw Us All In A Trench And Stuck A Monument On Top debut was released in 2002. Noecker and Albertson left the band shortly after its release and were replaced by drummer Julian Gross. Liars have since released three more albums.

You can see Liars freak out when they open for Radiohead on Aug. 19 at Vancouver's Thunderbird Stadium.
