Islands Still Stick It Out At The Top

We have a returning champion at the top of the chart as we head into the North By Northeast Music Festival week,. Islands' Arm's Way fights off all comers to retain the #1 spot on the top 50 chart for the week ending June 6. Portishead's Third holds on to #2 again and is followed by old-timers Teenage Head, whose eponymous collaboration with Marky Ramone jumps three spots to #3. Tokyo Police Club's Elephant Shell moves up four spots to #4. The Black Keys' Attack & Release drops a spot to #5. The Constantines' former #1, Kensington Heights, tumbles three places to #6. No Age's Nouns remains at #7 and The Wet Secrets' Rock Fantasy jumps seven spots to #8. Flight Of The Conchords' self-titled release falls four positions to #9, with Young And Sexy's The Arc rising six spots to #10.
The Chart Sizzler Award goes to The Green Hour Band's self-titled album, which enters the chart at #17. The Vancouver band received strong support from four radio stations, as CJAM (Windsor) charted the album at #1, while CITR (UBC) placed it at #5. CJSW (Calgary) ranked it #7 and CFBU (Brock) had it at #10. Coming a close second in the Chart Sizzler race is Cinderpop's A Lesson In Science, which hits the chart at #18. Other notable new entries include Ruby Coast's self-titled album at #29, The Black Angels' Directions To See A Ghost at #47 and Gonzales' Soft Power at #49.
Jason Collett gets the Old Man Of The Sea Award (OK, I just made that up) for having the album that's spent the most time on the chart. Here's To Being Here re-enters the chart and appears in the top 50 for a 17th week.
I forgot to acknowledge a bit of a milestone last week on the Hip-Hop chart. Shad's The Old Prince re-entered at #10, giving the album 19 weeks on that chart (two weeks less than record holder Buck 65's Situation). Atmosphere's When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold stays at the top of the Hip-Hop chart, while Cadence Weapon's Afterparty Babies hits #2 in its 16th week. Matmos' Supreme Balloon remains on top of the Electronic chart, while Testament's The Formation Of Damnation does the same on Metal/Punk. Esperanza Spalding's Esperanza hits #1 on the Jazz/Blues top 10, while Orchestra Baobob's Made In Dakar arrives at #1 on the World/Folk chart.
