Handsome Furs And Swervedriver's Franklin Cover Each Other

You'd think that Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade and Handsome Furs and Swervedriver wouldn't have much in common. Boeckner's bands specialize in off-kilter indie rock, while Swervedriver were a big part of the early '90s shoegaze scene. But Swervedriver's Adam Franklin and Handsome Furs will cover each other's songs on a single due out this summer on White Whale Records.
Franklin's cover of Wolf Parade's "Shine A Light" was supposed to be included on last year's Bolts Of Melody solo album. It didn't make the cut, but Franklin hung on to the track and it will be included on the single with the Handsome Furs' take on a to-be-announced Swervedriver track. It will be released digitally and as a limited-edition coloured vinyl seven-inch. Although a release date has yet to be ironed out, "Shine A Light" is available on iTunes.
Swervedriver are in the midst of a reunion tour and will play Toronto's Lee's Palace on June 13 as part of the North By Northeast Music Festival.
Handsome Furs will play some Canadian dates in support of their sophomore album, Face Control, which is due out sometime this year. But first Boeckner will tour with Wolf Parade in support of the June 17 release of At Mount Zoomer. Here's where Canadians can see Handsome Furs:
