Brendan Canning Combats Album Leak

If you believe U.S. Senator Ted Stevens, the internet is a "series of tubes" filled with "enormous amounts of material." Some of that material consists of pirated albums. Broken Social Scene's Brendan Canning is the latest artist to fall victim to that set of leaky tubes.
Someone apparently took Canning's album title literally, because an unmastered, inferior version of his Something For All Of Us… solo debut recently leaked online. While the record is still due in stores on July 22, a downloadable version has been made available on Arts & Crafts' web store to combat piracy.
"With the retail release being six weeks away, I've decided to correct the situation by releasing the album digitally myself, because I can," Canning recently wrote on his website. "So this is for all you early birds who just couldn't wait for July 22nd.
"It merely corrects the situation that is…a messed up version of my record floating around on the internet, and this is not how I wanted my record to drop. Believe me, this is not a minor situation. We're talking recall here folks."
Last year, Canning's BSS pal Amy Millan and her band Stars faced the same problem when In Our Bedroom After The War was leaked. Copies were being pirated weeks before it was scheduled to hit stores last September, so the band issued the album digitally on July 10.
You can see Canning and his friends in Broken Social Scene at these Canadian shows:
