Matthew Sweet, known for such '90s hits as "Girlfriend" and "Sick Of Myself," will release his first solo album in four years when he drops Sunshine Lies on Aug. 26 via Shout! Factory Records.
Sweet recorded the 13-track Sunshine Lies at Los Angeles' Lolina Green Studios and produced and mixed the album himself. Former Bangles vocalist Susanna Hoffs appears on the disc along with drummer Ric Menck, guitarist Ivan Julian, guitarist/pedal steel player Greg Leisz and guitarist Richard Lloyd. Sunshine Lies is Sweet's first solo album since 2004's Living Things, which was the follow-up to 1999's In Reverse. Sunshine Lies will also be available in a double-vinyl edition featuring four bonus tracks not included on the CD.
Sweet has released five albums since 1991's Girlfriend became a commercial hit buoyed by the success of its title track. He also collaborated with Hoffs on a 2006 covers disc titled Under The Covers, Vol. 1, and is a member of The Thorns with Pete Droge and Shawn Mullins.
Sweet also recently produced Alabama quintet The Bridges' Limits Of The Sky debut, which is out on June 10 through Verve Forecast. Leisz also added pedal steel to that record.
