The Killers Ask Mike Tyson To Duet

The Killers

While the pairing of The Killers and former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson sounds odd at first, it might not be.

After all, listening to the Las Vegas group's music might make some people wish that their ear had been bitten off like Evander Holyfield's was during his 1997 title fight with Tyson. And the bankrupt boxer was called a killer in the ring, and no-one would be surprised if he actually murdered someone outside of it. After all, he spent time in prison for rape and told people that he was crazy enough to eat their babies.

Imagine the potential entertainment value if Tyson accepts The Killers' invitation to duet with them during their appearances at the U.K.'s Reading and Leeds festivals in August. The squeaky-voiced Tyson would make a fine foil for Brandon Flowers.

The Killers and Tyson first hooked up in February when the group accepted an NME Award for best international band via satellite, and "Iron Mike" was with them in a barber shop.

The "Mr. Brightside" creators and actress Robin Givens' ex-husband first met in a Vegas karaoke bar, according to Killers drummer Ronnie Vannucci in an interview with NME.

"You could just tell he was up for a bit of karaoke," he said about Tyson walking into the club. "He just had that look in his eye. So it was kinda love at first sight."

Vannucci and Tyson treated the audience to Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" before sharing a plate of "Asian delicacies."

When asked what song he'd like Tyson to sing with the band this summer, Vannucci said Joy Division's "Shadowplay" would be "cool."
