Kurt Cobain's ashes have been stolen, according to an article in British tabloid News Of The World.
Courtney Love, the wife of the legendary Nirvana frontman, had been in possession of his remains since his suicide in 1994. Some of his ashes were scattered in a Buddhist temple in New York, while others were strewn in the Wishkah River near his Washington home. Whatever remained of the singer/guitarist had been left to his widow.
The grunge god's ashes had been kept in a pink teddy-bear-shaped bag, along with a lock of his hair, which was kept in a wardrobe in her Hollywood home. But Love allegedly discovered that his ashes and thousands of dollars worth of clothing and jewelry, were missing a couple of weeks ago.
"I can't believe anyone would take Kurt's ashes from me," said Love. "I find it disgusting and right now I'm suicidal. If I don't get them back I don't know what I'll do."
Love apparently believes that a former friend is responsible for the theft.
"They were all I had left of my husband," Love said. "I used to take them everywhere with me just so I could feel Kurt was still with me. Now it feels like I have lost him all over again."
Love claimed in March that someone used Cobain's social security number to steal more than $200 million U.S. from his estate.
The 43-year-old former Hole frontwoman has been working on her second solo album, which is expected this summer. Is her grave-robbing tale true, or is she merely seeking some narcissistic pre-release publicity?
