"We Have A New Record," Said The Whale

Said The Whale may have gone into debt to record their independently released Taking Abalonia, but they still managed to record a few new tunes last November. Howe Sounds/Taking Abalonia is a combination of their debut release and seven new songs. It will be released on June 3 by Upper Management Recording Co.

Howe Sounds is a pun on Howe Sound, a group of fjords near Said The Whale's hometown of Vancouver. You can hear five new tracks from the album and watch the video for "This City's A Mess" on Said The Whale's MySpace page.

Said The Whale were previously a duo of Ben Worcester (vocals, guitar) and Tyler Bancroft (guitar, vocals), who are childhood friends. The band later expanded into a quintet including Jeff LaForge (bass, vocals), Spencer Schoening (drums) and Colin Dodds (keyboards). Said The Whale's members previously played with bands like My Buddy Dave, The Millionaires and WordsOverMusic. After the release of Taking Abalonia, Said The Whale acquired a following which includes CBC Radio 3's Grant Lawrence and celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton.
