Cursed's Chris Colohan Says "It's Over" After Band Are Robbed In Europe

Over the years, Toronto hardcore band Cursed have weathered the departure of two members and guitarist Christian McMaster's carpal tunnel syndrome in both of his hands, which until recently left him in casts and unable to play without being in extreme pain. But Cursed were robbed at the end of their European tour this month, which led frontman Chris Colohan to write on the band's blog that it was "over" for the band.

Cursed had been playing European shows with bands like The Wraith, Disfear and Rotten Sound since the end of April. Things seemed to be going really well at first, although drummer Mike "The Mauler" Maxymuik almost didn't make it to Europe due to a passport problem. "It wouldn't be a Cursed tour if something didn't get hopelessly fucked up right off the bat," Colohan wrote in an April 30 blog post.

He went on to write that he was pleased with a string of shows Cursed had played with The Wraith in England, and the band had done a session for the BBC in the studio formerly used by the late radio personality, John Peel. "There's one to make your balls tingle," Colohan wrote.

Colohan wrote on May 22 that Cursed had been robbed of their passports and money at the end of the tour.

"Either way, whoever did it, it was a bullet in the head, the end of the line. A sudden and totally fucked up way for it to end, which I know will be fitting when I look back on it… Needless to say, all outstanding plans are off… I'll elaborate when I'm home next week, for now — yes it's true, and yes it's over."

But Cursed's friends in the hardcore community have come together to try and help them. Titan, Vilipend, Gunnar Rapido and a secret special guest will play a benefit gig on Cursed's behalf on Tuesday at Toronto's Kathedral. It'll cost you five bucks to get in, and all the funds raised will go towards bringing Cursed home so they can continue as a band. All the money will be deposited into a PayPal account so the band can access it in Europe.

Cursed formed in 2001 and have released three albums. The last was this year's III: Architects Of Troubled Sleep.
