My Morning Jacket Release Their Evil Urges

My Morning Jacket

Louisville, Ky. rockers My Morning Jacket will release their fifth album, Evil Urges, on June 10 through Dave Matthews' ATO Records.

The 14-track disc was produced by MMJ singer/guitarist Jim James and Grammy Award winner Joe Chiccarelli (Tori Amos, Beck) in New York City's Avatar Studios. They recorded their first three albums in their home studio, while 2005's Z was done at Allaire Studios at the foot of the Catskills Mountains. Like Z, Evil Urges mixes different musical styles, combining funk, disco and southern rock.

"I feel like rhythm is kind of forgotten in a lot of rock music, but also that arrangement can be forgotten in a lot of hip-hop and current R&B music," says James. "Everybody is traveling along this dangerously segregated path, and I was wanting to incorporate all different types of stuff."

The album's title track can be previewed on My Morning Jacket's MySpace page.

My Morning Jacket formed in 1998 and released their The Tennessee Fire debut the next year. They released their major label debut, It Still Moves, in 2003. Z and 2006's live Okonokos CD and DVD followed.
