Motley Crue Can Still Play Sarnia's Bayfest

Here's a warning to the good citizens of Sarnia, Ont.: Hide your girlfriends, wives, daughters and liquor. Motley Crue are still coming your way.

Sarnia city council shot down a proposal by councilor Dave Boushy to prevent the veteran hair metal band from performing on July 10 as part of Bayfest at Centennial Park, which the city owns. Boushy tried to convince his cronies that they should have a say in who performs at the annual music festival, as he was concerned that the Crue members' offstage endeavours were "pornographic" and could harm the city's image. But other councilors didn't want to turn into a censor board and elected to let the group perform as scheduled.

Boushy started lobbying after a local grandfather named Gord Park informed him of Motley Crue's well-publicized extracurricular activities, which have included copious amounts of drugs, booze, sex and vehicular homicide. Park is appealing to area churches, politicians, service clubs and protection agencies to halt such acts from performing in Sarnia.

"There's been an enormous reaction and I'd say 99 per cent is in favour of my opinion," Park said in a Sun Media report. "People are saying this world is on a downward spiral. I'm not just talking about Motley Crue, I'm talking about any kind of trash."

Bon Jovi will open Bayfest on July 6. Fergie will perform on July 9. The Black Crowes are scheduled for July 11, Rascal Flats and Taylor Swift for July 12, and Big & Rich and Emerson Drive for July 13. Those last three shows, however, are contingent on Sarnia's existence. God may be so appalled by the wickedness overtaking the city when Motley Crue are there on July 10 that he may decide to destroy them like Sodom and Gomorrah to teach rock fans a lesson.

"I just hope groups like the Women's Interval Home and other protection agencies that combat drugs and sex abuse can handle the repercussions of what's being promoted," said Park.
