Peter Bjorn And John Pump Out More Albums

Peter Bjorn And John have been pretty busy ever since that whistling song "Young Folks" caught on like a wildfire. They toured for 18 months on-and-off to support 2006's Writers Block, but don't think for a second that they're slowing down. The Swedish trio already have one album in the can and are working on its follow-up.
While no release date has been set, their fourth album — which is entirely instrumental — is due sometime this fall. There are many working titles stated on the band's website, including Writers Block 2.1, Fort Knox Folks and Police Academy 18, but vocalist/guitarist Peter Moren says none of those are official.
"That's [drummer] John [Eriksson] playing around, being a comedian. He has too little to do, I think. None of those titles have been discussed."
Moren says they've always dreamed of doing an instrumental album, and it's an important step for the band to keep things interesting.
"We thought this was a good time to lose half of the audience by some obscure instrumental album. We're never going to be a marketing dream."
Details on the record after the instrumental effort are scarce, but rest assured that PB And J's fifth album will have vocals. You can expect it sometime in 2009.
But you don't have to wait for your fix of new material from the band. Moren's debut solo album, The Last Tycoon, was released on April 8. He's playing a smattering of support dates in Europe and North America.
"I'm kind of tired of touring, actually — I admit that," says Moren. "But this is just a new thing.
"I'm going to be with some friends [including opening act Tobias Froberg], also my girlfriend is coming with me on part of the tour, so it's just going to be a bit more relaxed in a way… nervous maybe to be out on your own, but at the same time, it's not like rock shows. It feels different.
"It's good to have a break from the band and then go into the band again and kind of feel refreshed."
