Osheaga Returns And Heavy MTL Debuts On Montreal's Festival Calendar

The third annual Osheaga Music And Arts Festival will move up by a month, while Gillett Entertainment Group will introduce a second major festival to Montreal this summer.
Osheaga will take place on Aug. 3 and 4 at Parc Jean Drapeau, while the new Heavy MTL fest will be staged at the same location on June 21 and 22.
Jack Johnson will make his Montreal debut at Osheaga, which will also host Iggy Pop's first local appearance in more than a decade. The Killers, Broken Social Scene, Cat Power and The Go! Team are among the other acts on the bill, which organizers hope will draw more than 30,000 people over two days.
"There's no artist bigger than Jack Johnson in Quebec right now," Osheaga director Nick Farkas told Montreal newspaper The Gazette. "Nobody doesn't like him — he crosses into so many genres."
Osheaga has dropped its ticket prices from last year. An early-bird special offer will see weekend passes going for $105 to the first 5,000 people. After that, passes will sell for $67.50 for one day and $120 for both. Ticket holders will also be entitled to free public transportation to get to the festival.
Iron Maiden and Motley Crue will co-headline Heavy MTL, which will also feature Anthrax, Hatebreed, Mastodon and others. Tickets will cost $75 per day or $135 for two days.
Osheaga tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Saturday here, while Heavy MTL ducats will be available two hours later from the same site.
