Crystal Castles Hold On Again

Anthologie Des Perchoirs

With the high water mark of new charts this week paralleling the cresting of flooding rivers across southern Ontario, there's stasis among albums at the top of the chart.

While Crystal Castles' self-titled album continues to be the king (and queen) of the castle for a third consecutive week, the competition below it continues between Plants And Animals' Parc Avenue at #2 and Black Mountain's In The Future at #3, which switch positions from last week. Ladyhawk' Shots remains at #4 for an almost unprecedented fifth straight week. It's followed by two more albums that flipped positions: Destroyer's Trouble In Dreams at #5 and Born Ruffians' Red, Yellow And Blue at #6. Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds' Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! injects some fresh blood into the top 10 after rocketing up 18 places to #7. It's followed by the six-spot jump of Los Campesinos!' Hold On Now, Youngster… at #8.

At #9 we find the highest debut of the week, and we know what that means, don’t we? Yes, Duchess Says' Anthologie Des 3 Perchoirs is the Chart Sizzler Of The Week. The new Alien8 Records release received enough airplay to make it on to 11 different campus radio charts, including #3 at CKDU (Dalhousie), #5 at CJAM (Windsor) and #7 at CISM (Montreal). While the eponymous release by Vampire Weekend rounds out the top 10, the the runner-up new release of the week comes a little further down the chart. Man Man's Rabbit Habits debuts at #13, followed by the Constantines' highly anticipated Kensington Heights at #20. Other notable new entries include Horses' self-titled album at #30, The Black Keys' Attack & Release at #37 and The B-52s' Funplex at #48.

Things are relatively calm on the specialty charts, as all five have the same #1 albums as last week: Crystal Castles' self-titled effort on Electronic; Cadence Weapon's Afterparty Babies on Hip-Hop; Pat Metheny Trio's Day Trip on Jazz/Blues; Meshuggah's Obzen on Metal/Punk; and the Umalali: Garifuna Women's Project compilation on World/Folk.
