British art-punk legends Wire have recorded their 11th studio album. But, as its title implies, they've released a lot more than that over their off-and-on 32-year career.
The album is titled Object 47, as it represents the 47th release in the Wire discography. It's their first full-length since 2003's Send, though they issued the four-song Read & Burn — 03 EP last November. No release date has been announced yet.
Object 47 is the first Wire LP without guitarist and co-founding member , Bruce Gilbert, who left in 2004. Core members Colin Newman (vocals, guitar), Graham Lewis (bass, vocals) and Robert Grey (drums) will be joined for upcoming shows by rhythm guitarist Margaret Fiedler McGinnis, who's best known for her work in Laika. She was also a member of PJ Harvey's touring band earlier this decade.
Wire's only confirmed North American performances will be as part of Calgary's Sled Island Festival on June 27 and 28. More dates are expected to be announced shortly.
