Stone Temple Pilots And Tragically Hip To Headline Calgary's First Virgin Festival

The musical stampede that is the Virgin Festival will charge into Calgary for the first time to open the summer.
The June 21 and 22 event at Fort Calgary will be headlined by Stone Temple Pilots on day one and The Tragically Hip on day two. Other acts include The Flaming Lips, Three Days Grace, Matthew Good, City And Colour, Stars and The New Pornographers.
The lineup was partially put together by promoters asking Calgarians who they wanted to see via email, snail mail and, of course, a Facebook group.
"When we announced Virgin Festival Calgary, I promised that we'd continue to make music a huge part of people's lives," says Virgin Group chairman Richard Branson. "Who knows better what music Calgary wanted to hear at their first festival than Calgarians themselves?"
"We've got a lineup that's got all genres covered — we couldn't come to Calgary without serving up a little country," says Virgin Festivals director Andrew Bridge. "Be there, or be square…dancing."
Limited early bird tickets for the event will go on sale at Future Shop's website at 10 a.m, on Wednesday, while general ticket sales will begin on April 12 at the same time and same place (plus Ticketmaster outlets). One-day passes are $75.50, while it's $125 for both days. Prices include sales taxes, a venue fee and a donation to the Virgin Unite Canada charity.
Toronto's Virgin Festival will be held on Sept. 6 and 7, while the dates for Vancouver's festival still haven't been finalized.
