The first block of artists named to play Calgary's second annual Sled Island Festival has been announced.
The event, which will run from June 25 to 28 throughout Calgary, will feature Wire, Of Montreal, Jonathan Richman, The Gutter Twins, Jose Gonzalez, RZA, Mogwai, No Age, Deerhunter and many others. A schedule hasn't yet been finalized and the full lineup of almost 100 acts won't be announced until May 1, but if you like the initial lineup, you should probably look at getting an early bird pass. They're $140 (plus taxes and service charges) and are available through the festival's website.
Sled Island is a non-profit event intended to bring the arts to Calgary and showcase some of the city's culture to the rest of the world. In addition to all the musical levity, you can catch several artist exhibitions being staged in collaboration with the Glenbow Museum and Calgary Arts Development Association.
Last year's inaugural Sled Island lineup featured Spoon, Cat Power, The Walkmen, Les Savy Fav, Destroyer, Boredoms and others.
Here are the artists confirmed for the 2008 Sled Island Festival so far:
