Landform Dominance Continues As Black Mountain Tie Islands

Crystal Castles

Just like Sonny And Cher sang back in the '60s, "The Beat Goes On," and it still does for Black Mountain. This Vancouver-based collective's In The Future has topped the Canadian campus radio chart for the sixth straight week. It's the first time in two years that one album has held on to the #1 spot for so long. The last album to do it was Islands' Return To The Sea in April and May of 2006. Black Mountain are still a month away from breaking the record of Stars' Set Yourself On Fire, which racked up 10 weeks at #1 over a 12-week period from November 2004 to February 2005.

Plants And Animals' Parc Avenue remains at #2 and is followed by a couple of young bucks. Born Ruffians' Red, Yellow And Blue jumps five places to #3, and Ladyhawk's Shots rises six spots to #4. Cadence Weapon's Afterparty Babies moves up a deuce to #5 while Vampire Weekend's self-titled CD falls by the same amount to #6. The biggest mover in the top 10 is The Raveonettes' Lust Lust Lust, which leaps nine places to #7. A former #1, Jason Collett's Here's To Being Here, falls a couple of spots to #8. Hayden's In Field & Town tumbles four places to #9, with the Juno soundtrack rising by three to round out the top 10.

Crystal Castles

The Chart Sizzler Award goes to Crystal Castles' eponymous release, which enters the top 50 at a modest #24. Six reporting campus radio stations placed this album on their individual top 30 charts and four of them had it in their top 10. CFRU (Guelph) charted it at #3, CFCR (Saskatoon) placed it at #5, CILU (Lakehead) had it at #9 and CISM (Montreal) debuted it at #10. Only six other albums debuted on the chart this week. Forest City Lovers' Haunting Moon Sinking arrived at #31 and Oldfolks Home's We Are The Feeding Line finally entered at #33 after appearing on the top 35 chart from CJUM (Manitoba) since the beginning of the year. The other four new entries are Matthew Barber's Ghost Notes at #43, The Better Beatles' Mercy Beat at #44, The Ruby Suns' Sea Lion at #48 and Protest The Hero's Fortress at #50.

Hot Chip's Made In The Dark continues to dominate the Electronic chart for a fourth week. Cadence Weapon's Afterparty Babies remains at #1 on the Hip-Hop top 10 and Genghis Tron's Board Up The House holds down the top spot on the Metal/Punk chart. The unusually high #2 debut of Meshuggah's Obzen should also be noted. There were two different specialty charts that had changes in their top album. Cheb I Sabbah's Devotion returns to #1 on the World/Folk chart after a three-week absence, while Maceo Parker's Roots And Grooves jumps five positions to grab #1 on the Jazz/Blues top 10 for the first time.
