Keith Richards Tells Amy Winehouse To Lay Off The Drugs

Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards admits to liking only one modern singer — the drug-addled Amy Winehouse — but he said if she doesn't lay off the drugs soon, she "isn't going to be around long."

In an interview with British newspaper The Mail On Sunday, Richards said: "That girl isn't going to be around long unless she sorts herself out pretty quick. Amy's got to get smart."

The 64-year-old rocker knows what he's talking about. Richards is a former heroin addict who said he was once so high that he let a firework burn his finger to the bone. (Ouch.) He also admitted he still "smokes weed all the damn time."

Richards said he doesn't expect Winehouse to listen to his advice. "I'm not a preacher, but I've been there and you have to pass it on."

Stones frontman Mick Jagger also commented on the trouble they had with police over their drug use in the '70s. "It completely took over our lives creatively and we couldn't do this and couldn't do that," he said. "You had to spend all your time trying to deal with the police. The same thing has happened to Amy Winehouse."

Winehouse has said no to rehab on multiple occasions, but the 24-year-old British singer finally entered an undisclosed treatment centre in the U.S. with her husband Blake Fielder-Civil in August 2007.

She was recently let out of the rehabilitation clinic to perform two songs via satellite for the 50th annual Grammy Awards, where she won five awards, including song and record of the year for "Rehab," and best pop vocal album for Back To Black.
