Crash Parallel

Time is starting to speed up for Toronto rock quartet Crash Parallel. They were recently signed to major label Sony BMG, they're set to release their World We Know debut album, there's a video coming out in April, and they'll be promoting themselves across the west coast in the next week, leading into a late spring country-wide tour.

But for Tim Edwards (vocals), Dan Saitua (guitar), Gary Rugala (bass), and John Vitellaro (drums), this stuff is just the biz. They'd rather showcase their personal side to their listeners through storytelling.

Frontman Edwards' lyrics touch on classic themes like unrequited love and complicated relationships. He describes these stories as mainly "crashes" in his life.

"The song 'Long Night Dreaming' is about this girl that, when I first saw her, I instantly fell in love with her and I never really had the courage to walk up to her and instigate anything," says Edwards. "I worked with her every night and I knew that I had an opportunity, but kept putting it off. Every night when I went home I was thinking about what it would have been like and eventually it became too late. I never got to see that opportunity through."

But it's not just love they care about. They're also trying to nurse the world, a few steps at a time.

"The song 'World We Know' is when we got bombarded with the whole barrage of images of war and then there was a lot of environmental issues going on in the world and it just seemed like there was a lot of things that needed to be getting done and nothing was being done," says Edwards. "The song is sort of a call to action not to say 'Let's stop what we're doing and let's pay attention' and make sure that we're not waiting for those disasters to happen. Let's take action now."

The band are trying to do their part.

"One of the things is having biodegradable cups that we would like to have at all of our shows," says Edwards. "Some of the things that we do in daily life, like just trying to walk places and even turn the lights out or don't waste water. And be nice to people: One of the biggest things I think is positivity, when you're walking around, holding doors. I notice that when I do good things in my life, good things come back."

World We Know will be released on May 6, but three songs are already available for download on iTunes.
