The Breeders' Kelley Deal To Put Out Knitting Book

The Breeders

Playing with her sister Kim in one of the biggest rock bands of the '90s isn't enough for Kelley Deal. As of October, you'll be able to walk into book stores and buy a how-to book on bag knitting by The Breeders' guitarist. Yes, that's right: Bag knitting.

Bags That Rock: Knitting On The Road With Kelley Deal, will be available for $19.95 Canadian ($17.95 U.S.) through arts and crafts publisher Lark Books and will feature how-to bag knitting tips.

After kicking heroin and sobering up in rehab, Deal began spending quality time with a different set of needles. She used knitting to stay off heroin and now sells her own bags, hats and scarves at her website. Deal also appeared on the DIY Network's "Knitty Gritty" show on Feb.13 and demonstrated how to knit one of her bags.

If you're not interested in needles and thread and think wool is too itchy, The Breeders' new album Mountain Battles will hit stores April 8. If you're keen to see The Breeders live, you can head to Richard's On Richards in Vancouver on May 23 and learn some tricks of the guitar variety while you watch Kelley Deal's fingers move across her fretboard.
