The Future Remains Now For Black Mountain

The total onslaught on the top 50 chart by Black Mountain's In The Future continues almost unabated. This week, the competition has clawed back into the race for the top spot, as the difference between the first- and second-place point totals decreased from 900 points last week to approximately 400 this week, with In The Future grabbing 1,751 and Plants And Animals's Parc Avenue racking up 1,355.
Hot Chip's Made In The Dark rises a spot to #3, while Vampire Weekend's self-titled release drops two spots to #4. Hayden's In Field & Town follows the same path as Vampire Weekend in falling to #5. A former #1, Jason Collett's Here's To Being Here, rises a place to #6, as does Cadence Weapon's Afterparty Babies at #7. Born Ruffians' Red, Yellow And Blue rockets up to #8 from #39. Cat Power's Jukebox drops four spots to #9, while Ladyhawk's Shots jumps 13 places to #10.
The Chart Sizzler Award goes to the band who own the longest moniker ever to appear on the top 50 chart. Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band's wordily titled 13 Blues For Thirteen Moons enters at #24 to become the highest debut this week. Coming in a close second is Beach House's Devotion at #26, with Purple Hill's I Was Born To Flesh at #27. Other notable new entries include Fidgital's Departure at #33, Ghostland Observatory's Robotique Majestique at #34, Evangelista's Hello, Voyager at #36 and The Mars Volta's The Bedlam Goliath at #37.
Sitting at #50 after 17 weeks is Holy Fuck's LP, which falls 22 places. Buck 65's Situation has lasted 16 weeks and drops a notch to #29. The Hives' The Black And White Album has been around for 12 weeks and rises 12 places to #38.
Four of the five specialty charts feature the same #1 album as last week: Hot Chip's Made In The Dark on Electronic; Cadence Weapon's Afterparty Babies on Hip-Hop; Genghis Tron's Board Up The House on Metal/Punk; and Steve Reid Ensemble's Daxaar on Jazz/Blues. The only new specialty chart topper is the Putumayo Presents: Latin Reggae compilation that jumps four spots to grab #1 on the World/Folk top 10.
