Zooey Deschanel And M. Ward Become She & Him

She & Him, better known as critically acclaimed indie folkster M. Ward and actress Zooey Deschanel, will release their Volume One debut on March 18 through Merge Records.
Ward met Deschanel when they recorded a version of Richard and Linda Thompson's "When I Get To The Border" for the soundtrack for the 2007 film, The Go-Getter. Deschanel sent demos of material she had been working on, which eventually comprised nine of Volume One's songs. The disc, which Ward produced, also features covers of The Beatles' "I Should Have Known Better" and Smokey Robinson And The Miracles' "You Really Got A Hold On Me."
The album also features the talents of indie folkster Adam Selzer, DeVotchKa's Tom Hagerman, Rachel Blumberg, Mike Coykendall, Peter Broderick, Mike Mogis and Paul Brainerd. "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?" can be previewed on She & Him's MySpace page.
Ward's last Merge album was 2006's Post-War. He's previously collaborated with Neko Case, Conor Oberst, Jim James, Nels Cline and Jenny Lewis.
She & Him first performed at last year's Sundance Film Festival. The duo also played together on Ward's tour with Norah Jones last summer and at San Francisco's Noise Pop festival earlier this month. They'll appear at the South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas next week.
