The Creepshow Are Busy Little Ghouls

While entirely amicable, The Creepshow double-bassist Sickboy is a man of few words. Then again, guys who prefer to make a permanent career out of slapping and/or hitting things generally are. Or they're just told to keep their trap shut to avoid irreparable damage to a band's image.

In this case, though, Sickboy is obviously a man of action over babble. The stout four-stringer prefers to hold his cards close, reserving brain power for keeping tabs on the constantly-in-need-of-updating to-do list he, singer/guitarist Sarah Sin, drummer Matt Pomade and keyboardist The Reverend McGinty must endure as one of Canada's greatest psychobilly exports. The Toronto-based quartet have quickly set a decidedly high bar for rockabilly-influenced punk while touring the globe in support of their Sell Your Soul debut over the past two years.

"We're just taking a little bit of time off to write the new album and do some demos," says Sickboy. "Mid-March, we'll be heading back to Europe for four weeks for a festival tour with the U.S. Bombs dubbed the 'Bad Boys For Life Tour.' When we get back in mid-April, we'll be finishing up writing the new record, then we head out for some dates with Tiger Army and The Unseen."

That's just the start of things. As 2008 plods frigidly through March, The Creepshow are already looking as far ahead as fall in terms of shows, recording and, you guessed it, more shows. After all, they have to support their latest creation. But Sickboy acknowledges the need for a self-imposed exile before continuing any further. As Sell Your Soul quickly passes its second year on store shelves, fans are waiting in frustration for new material.

"We'll be going into the studio and finally recording the new album in mid-May," offers Sickboy. "Of course, that means it should be released some time at the end of the summer, if people can wait that long.

"But at this point, it really isn't that far away. Either way, we're on top of things — not just sitting around. With everything shaping up like this, we couldn't sit around anyway. We're too excited about this coming year."

The Creepshow play Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern on Saturday with Maybe Smith, Said The Whale, Black Lungs, The Saint Alvia Cartel, White Cowbell Oklahoma, The Ghost Is Dancing and Tom Fun Orchestra as part of ChartAttack's annual Canadian Music Week showcase. They'll also play Toronto's Opera House on May 9 with The Unseen and Tiger Army.
