MIMIs Go To The Wolves

We Are Wolves were among the big winners at Saturday's Montreal International Music Initiative (MIMI) Awards, taking home the top international artist prize for the artist with the greatest international potential.
It's another feather in the cap for Montreal's most electrifying gang of three. Last year they won the Eurocentric M Is For Montreal contest and earned a chance to play the Great Escape festival in Brighton, England this May. We Are Wolves released their second album, Total Magique, in 2007.
Along with the award, the group also received a $1,000 grant from the Societe De Developpement Des Entreprises Culturelles, a Quebec governmental organization that helps promote the arts and culture industry.
Three other bands received $1,000 grants from the Quebec Independent Music Association. The Dirty Tricks received the broadcast prize for the artist who will benefit most from a media campaign. The National Parcs were judged to be the artist who will benefit most from Quebec or Canadian tour support. Socalled's "(These Are) The Good Old Days" was named song of the year.
There were three other winners of engraved Shure microphones at the gala staged at Montreal's Lion D'Or, as decided by a panel comprised mostly of local media members. Gatineau were deemed best new artist and given $800 by Trillium Sound for album mastering. Mahjorbidet will receive a five-day recording or mixing session at MIXART Studios for being the artist who will benefit most from additional studio support. Misteur Valaire got a $750 grant from MMS Discs And DVD for digipack packaging in recognition of having the best demo recording.
