Vancouver punk legends D.O.A. are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year, and what better way to do it than with a new album.
The band must have saved up lots of money, because they're going into the studio later this month with mega-producer and Canadian Music Hall Of Fame inductee Bob Rock, who's worked with Metallica, The Cult, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Bryan Adams, The Tragically Hip, Our Lady Peace and Simple Plan. But maybe all the cash Rock made with those acts — and his connections to the late '70s Vancouver punk scene through his early work with D.O.A., Pointed Sticks and Young Canadians — means that a hometown discount may be in effect.
The album will be titled Northern Avenger and is tentatively scheduled to be released in Canada in May and around the world in August through D.O.A. singer/guitarist Joe "Shithead" Keithley's Sudden Death Records label.
Bassist Randy Rampage and drummer James Hayden collaborated with Keithley on Northern Avenger's songs, which include "Human Bomb," "Police Brutality," "Crossfire," "Devils' Speedway" and "Donnybrook."
D.O.A. are looking to play some Ontario shows in May. If you want to book them, contact Bill at info@suddendeath.com.
