Meet The Juno Nominees: IllScarlett

IllScarlett are touring in the middle of the Canadian Shield right now and couldn't make it to the Juno Awards media conference on Tuesday, where they were nominated for best new group. Their All Day With It debut full-length garnered rave reviews and "Who's Got It" was named the official song of last summer's under-20 world soccer championship that was held in Canada. We caught up with Alex Norman while he was in Thunder Bay, Ont. to talk about the nomination and a bit of unfortunate business for the group.
ChartAttack: Don't be modest, how do you feel about being nominated?
Alex Norman: It feels excellent. We're very excited. We kind of expected it. And we really want to win.
What was your musical highlight of the last year?
The whole year was kind of wicked. Just being in L.A., making the record, that was good, but stressful, too. Um, this is probably the highlight of the last calendar year, getting nominated for a Juno.
Name something you'd do with your trophy other than put it on your mantle.
Give it to my mom. She helped me a lot growing up and supported me doing the band. [The phone cuts out for call waiting on Norman's end.] Sorry about that, our van got broken into last night, so today's kind of bittersweet. We're like, "Yay, but, fuck!"
Triumph are this year's Canadian Music Hall Of Fame inductees. What's your favourite Triumph song?
My favourite Triumph song?
Yeah. Can you name one?
No.
Feist or Avril, who wins in a cage fight?
Feist is tall and Avril's really short, but I have a feeling Avril's a vicious, vicious bitch, man. She'd be really dirty, like claws and foot-stomps.
Who is the first person you'll thank if you win?
You know, I'm gonna thank my mom.
Well, good luck with the break-in. What happened?
Well, the guys are in Winnipeg, I flew ahead of them to Thunder Bay because I had a bit of radio stuff to do here today, so yeah, they got broken into — in Winnipeg. Go figure. Winnipeg?
