Here's To Jason Collett Hitting #1

Jukebox

As 2008 passes into its second month and Groundhog Day is already a memory, there continues to be major upheaval on the top 50 chart Jason Collett's Here's To Being Here rockets up an impressive 46 places to the top in the biggest jump ever made to #1.

Collett's album accomplishes what a number of other Arts & Crafts records previously have, including Feist's The Reminder in June 2007, Apostle Of Hustle's National Anthem Of Nowhere in March 2007, Broken Social Scene's eponymous album for the last 10 weeks of 2005 and Stars' Set Yourself On Fire in the autumn of 2004.

In a very close race, Katie Stelmanis' Join Us comes in at #2 after rising three spots. Cat Power's Jukebox enters the chart at #3 and garners the Chart Sizzler Award for the week, making Chan Marshall the first two-time Chart Sizzler winner. Cat Power's The Greatest was the top debut on the Feb. 3, 2006 chart, entering at #10. The Evaporators' Gassy Jack And Other Tales remains at #4, while the runner-up debut of the week, Black Mountain's In The Future, arrives at #5. Luke Doucet And The White Falcon's Blood's Too Rich falls from the top to #6. Last week's Chart Sizzler winner, The Whitsundays' self-titled album, jumps eight places to #7. Buck 65's Situation slips a deuce to #8, followed by the third debut in the top 10: The Feminists' Can't Scream Loud Enough. Daft Punk's Alive 2007 drops seven spots to #10.

Of the top 14 albums this week, five are debuts. Kate Maki's On High enters at #13 while the highly anticipated self-titled debut from Vampire Weekend arrives at #14. Other important debuts are The Pack A.D.'s Tintype at #29, The Mountain Goats' Heretic Pride at #34 and Times New Viking's Rip It Off at #36.

Just as there were many veteran albums on the chart last week, this week there are 11 records that have spent 10 or more weeks in the top 50. Leading the way is The Sadies' New Seasons with 17 weeks at #45. Beirut's The Flying Club Cup at #26 and The Most Serene Republic's Population at #28 have both survived for 14 weeks, while Radiohead's In Rainbows at #24 has hung around for 13 weeks.

The most notable trend on any of the specialty charts is the appearance of four new titles on the Metal/Punk top 10. While Dillinger Escape Plan's Ire Works remains at #1 in its ninth week and High On Fire's Death Is The Communion continues to chart in its 18th week, the bottom half is populated with new titles. Brutal Knights' Living By Yourself debuts at #6, Annihilator's Metal arrives at #8, Birds Of Prey's Sulfur And Semen comes in at #9 and Disfear's Live The Storm rounds things out.

There's a new #1 on the Jazz/Blues chart, as Out To Lunch's Excuse Me While I Do The Boogaloo rises nine spots to land there. Last week's #1 album returns on the three other specialty charts, as Daft Punk's Alive 2007 heads up Electronic, Buck 65's Situation sits at #1 on Hip-Hop for a 10th straight week and Beautiful Nubia And The Roots Renaissance Band's Kilokilo tops World/Folk for the second week in a row.
