DMX has been ordered to pay $1.5 million U.S. to the woman he accused of raping him.
A judge ordered the rapper to pay $518,400 for compensatory damages and $1 million for punitive damages to Monique Wayne, who sued the man born Earl Simmons in October 2006 for defamation. She claimed that he made false statements which brought on "unreasonable publicity" after he told Sister 2 Sister magazine that she had raped him while he slept after they met at a Washington, D.C. nightclub in 2003.
That encounter resulted in Wayne giving birth to a son in 2004. A paternity test showed that DMX was the father, and a court ordered him to pay child support. During the paternity suit hearing, Wayne claimed that DMX admitted to her that he made the rape claim in order to try and smooth things out with his wife, Tashera.
"When I sleep, my [penis] be out," DMX said in the October 2006 issue of Sister 2 Sister. "DNA says it is [my child]. I don't know. ... If I did [have sex with her], I would remember. It ain't like she's a pretty girl."
DMX wasn't in court for the proceedings on Friday and a default judgment was made against him. Murray Richman, the lawyer who DMX keeps very busy with his frequent legal problems, told MTV News that he and his client were unaware of the court date.
"I have no knowledge of this at all, and we have no record of him being served personally, which the law requires," said Richman, who plans to review the case and make an application to the court to show just cause for the judgment.
