Silverstein are finally getting exactly what they want: their own cross-Canada headlining tour. Starting later this month, the band will trek from Vancouver to Quebec City in support of Arrivals & Departures.
That album, released by Victory in July, is the third full-length from the Burlington, Ont. post-hardcore group. It's also the band's most commercially viable record to date, and arguably their most artistically successful as well.
Protest The Hero, IllScarlett and The Devil Wears Prada will join Silverstein on the 10-date jaunt. Multi-band tours are a great opportunity to connect with other groups rather than to compete with them, says drummer Paul Koehler.
"Usually, it always feels like you have a lot of family around. It's about sharing time with good bands and good people. It's not competitive because you're all there for the same reason — you all love music."
Silverstein shot a video for "Still Dreaming" on Dec. 21, and the touring cycle started up again when the calendar turned over to 2008.
"Immediately after the new year, we go to Australia and Japan, then we do the Canadian tour, and we follow that up with a U.S. tour," says Koehler. "That takes us to April, when we'll take some time off to write a bit.
"We'll probably tour in the summer and then later in 2008 we'll finish writing a new album. We're trying not to wait as long as we normally do to put this one out."
In the meantime, Koehler says fans can expect a high-energy show on the Canadian tour.
"It's something we've been perfecting for the last eight years. We've played our fair share of tours, but this is our first headlining tour. We're excited to be the headliner every night and excited to be doing it in our home country. It's well overdue and it's going to be a positive experience."
